Who Should Enrol

This qualification is recognised by the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) as entry level training and is ideal for:

  • aspiring finance/mortgage brokers
  • those seeking to achieve Accredited Mortgage Consultant (AMC) status
  • those aspiring to practise finance broking in WA and therefore required to obtain the required qualification (WA candidates need to enrol in the Finance Broking subject).

What would I achieve upon completion?

Upon successful completion this qualification, you should be able to:

  • understand the critical functions of a finance or mortgage broker
  • understand the regulatory framework surrounding the industry
  • gain exposure to various loan products
  • gain AMC status (note: other requirements must also be met, see MFAA website for further details)
  • meet WA licensing requirements (if Finance Broking subject is chosen)
  • attain a qualification that is recognised by industry bodies including the MFAA, the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) and the Australian Institute of Mortgage Brokers (AIMB).

As outlined in the learning outcomes and overview documents, the only difference between Mortgage Broking and Finance Broking subjects is that the latter includes an extra module, "WA Licensing Requirements", which makes it suitable only for those seeking to practise in WA.

This qualification can be studied via either:

  • Self-study – Delivered via distance education, subjects are self-contained with all the materials and resources needed to complete the subjects easily by self-study. Subjects can be commenced in the self-study mode at any time. The only requirement is for assignments to be submitted no later than four months from enrolment and you have up to six months from enrolment to sit the final open-book exam.
  • Intensive workshop – If a more structured learning environment is preferred, subjects are also available in a traditional classroom setting. This involves a period of essential pre-study followed by three days of workshops.

Assessment

To complete the subject, you must successfully complete:

  • an assignment

Qualification Fees

Costs vary depending on your choice of self-study or intensive workshop study.

Self-study:

  • Standard fee: $695 per subject
  • Finsia member: $625 per subject
  • WA students will also be required to pay an additional $75 for the self-study module Consumer Finance as part of the WA Licensing Requirements subject. 

Intensive workshop:

  • Total fee: $1,250 per subject
    ($695 per subject + $555 intensive workshop fee)
  • Finsia member: $1,130 per subject
    ($625 per subject + $505 intensive workshop fee)

Certificate IV Financial Services Workplace Skills Assessment

  • With client assessor at client premises: $130 per assessment
  • With a Kaplan assessor at a Kaplan office: $245 per assessment
  • With a Kaplan assessor at the client’s premises: $365 per assessment

Enrolment fee covers all subject materials, assignment marking, first sit examination supervision (if at Kaplan offices), examination marking and final certification upon successful subject completion.
