Financial Planning Knowledge Test

The Financial Planning Knowledge Test allows you to determine and compare the knowledge and skills of your job candidates, so you’ll be able to select the best person for the job. You can also use it to determine the skill levels of your existing staff in order to identify knowledge gaps and further training needs.

Test format

The Financial Planning Knowledge Test is a two-hour multiple-choice exam made up of 42 questions covering seven knowledge areas.

The test is available at two levels so you can choose the level that matches the position you are recruiting for.

  • Intermediate - for candidates who would refer complicated plans to more senior advisers and have access to a mentor.
  • Advanced - for candidates who will be acting independently and offering the full range of financial planning advice.

Kaplan Professional marks all the exams and sends you the results.

Knowledge areas assessed

The Financial Planning Knowledge Test assesses candidates’ skills in seven key knowledge areas:

  • social security
  • investments and markets
  • taxation
  • superannuation and retirement income investments
  • life insurance and risk management
  • legislation and compliance
  • financial strategies.

Delivery options

You choose how, when and where the exam is conducted.

  • Exam - online or paper-based.
  • Venue - at your premises or at Kaplan Professional’s premises.
  • Supervision - organise a supervisor or have Kaplan Professional supervise.
